Robert Sipes

Robert Sipes, 88, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on November 10, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 30, 1932 in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Raymond L. and Katherine Elizabeth (Strantz) Sipes.

He served in the US Army and was a combat veteran of the Korean War. After receiving his accounting degree from the Indiana Business College, he worked for various companies as a bookkeeper and accountant.  He was the owner and operator of the Family Drive-In Theater in Bloomfield, IN.

He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 88. He was also a member of the VFW Post 1120, the Moose Lodge, and 40 & 8. He participated in Honor Flight in April 2015. He was a true patriot and had great pride for his country.  He was a member of the Cumberland United Methodist Church. His hobbies included golf and bowling, where he was a 50-year member of the American Legion Bowling League. But most of all, his biggest joy was his time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years Beverley Jean (Hayworth) Sipes; son Michael Frederick Sipes (Carol); daughter Patricia Sipes Newby (Charles); grandchildren Michael Robert Sipes, Milford Robert Harber (Nicole), Robert Otto Harber (Elizabeth), and Shauna Lahrman (Albert); great-grandchildren Michael M, Kennady, Noah, Nick, Milford, Jeffery, Sophia, Quinlynn, and Kali; siblings Bernard “Berny” Sipes (the late Betty), Henry “Jack” Byron Sipes (Joyce), and Betty Rea Sipes Stewart (James); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Robert Sipes II; brother Edward Earl Sipes; and his parents.

Memorial visitation will be held for the public on Thursday, November 19 from 5 to 8 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St, Indianapolis. A Memorial Service for his family will be held at 11 AM on Friday, November 20 at the funeral home with interment following with military honors at Memorial Park Cemetery.
