Robert Louis "Bob" Monroe

March 5, 1930 — December 28, 2020

Avon, IN

Robert “Bob” L. Monroe passed away on December 28, 2020 at the age of 90, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Monroe. Bob is survived by his daughter, Jean (Steve) Trusedell, son, Tom (Pam) Monroe, 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Bob was born in Vermillion, Illinois and attended Wanatah High School where he graduated Top 10 in his class. Out of those ten students, he met his love of his life and wife of 48 years. Bob held many jobs throughout his life; between trying to find a nurse or a purse, Bob served honorably as a Marine in the United States Marine Core during the Korean War. He was a devoted father and husband, mentoring and devoting time as a Scout leader. He was a dedicated servant and man of faith, steadfast in the brotherhood of the Freemasons. Bob retired from a 29-year career managing maintenance crews on sections of the Indiana Toll Road; the “Main Street of the Midwest.” Bob enjoyed his retirement trading Midwest Winters for Florida Sunshine and pennies for poker chips, traveling with his infamous Gypsy Rovers. He loved his family, he loved his friends, he loved life. From smashing peanuts and snacking with his grandchildren to extending a helping hand in repairing neighbor’s homes, Bob Monroe led a life of kindness, generosity, humility, and joy. Bob never envied nor sought lavish success; he found fulfillment and success in sharing his knowledge, his skills, and providing for his family. Bob always said, “Never felt better and had less.” He sought to ensure everyone around him was comfortable and loved. “The last part of success, is to pass your work on to those whom will do better than you.” And that is what Bob did; he leaves a legacy of excellence, love, and kindness through mentorship and acts of service. Say Goodbye, Bob. Services will be Saturday, January 2, 2021 9:00 AM EST at Valley Mills Christian Church 5555 Kentucky Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46221. He will be laid to rest at Wills Twp. Cemetery in La Porte Co., IN. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation to Valley Mills Christian Church be made to Bob’s honor and memory.
