Robert Joseph Bego,Beloved Father, Husband, Coach, Hero and Friend, passed away on August 19 athome surrounded by family. He was bornAugust 9, 1929 in Indianapolis to the late Gerald and Martha (Woodard) Bego. Bob was a graduate of Howe High School andhad attended IUPUI. Bob served hiscountry in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bob retired from American General as VP ofCentral Indiana. He was an avid golferand fan of the Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts, Purdue Boilermakers, and theBoston Red Sox. Bob was also a member ofthe Roundtable and former President and long term member of Maple Creek CountryClub. Bob loved playing golf, coaching basketball and baseball. In retirement Bob enjoyed spending winters inVenice, Florida.
Surviving is his wife, SimoneBego of Venice, Florida; son David Bego and his wife Barbara of Indianapolis,daughter, Nancy Scheumann of Fort Wayne, IN; brothers, James Bego of Carlsbad,CA and Gary Bego of Hillsboro, OH; 6 grandchildren, Kelly Simerly, Mark Bego,Brian Bego, Angie Blotkamp, Kari Henry and Scott Scheumann; and 10 greatgrandchildren. Bob was preceded in deathby his first wife, Phyllis Bego and his 2nd wife, Doris LeightonBego. Doris’s grandchildren, Natalie andNicole also survive. Bob’s son-in-law, Michael Scheumann also preceded him indeath.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 4-7PM at Flanner and Buchanan-Geist, 7855 Cork Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46236. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM, Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Holy Spirit Geist, 10350 Glaser Way, Fishers,IN. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemeteryin Indianapolis with military rites following Mass and a luncheon at HolySpirit.
