Robert John Bowman

Robert John Bowman, 74, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 4, 2019 surrounded by his wife and two daughters. Bob was born on November 27, 1944 in Indianapolis to the late Robert Franklin and Mildred Mary (Koers) Bowman. He graduated grade school from Holy Spirit and high school from Scecina Memorial. He honorably served his country in the United Stated Army where he attained the rank of sergeant. He was stationed in Korea as the head of security at the DMZ during the Vietnam War era. He was a talented carpenter for 43 years specializing in lath and drywall. He was a member of the Fatima Council, Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight in 1977-78. He remained a member of the Knights of Columbus Third and Fourth Degree until his death. Bob loved the outdoors and had a passion for landscaping and maintaining his yard. He was a collector of Jeff Gordon die cast model cars and an avid sports fan. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and will be dearly missed by those who knew him.

He leaves behind his wife of over 52 years, Therese Bowman; daughters, Brenda Bowman and Deborah (Chris) Robinson; grandchildren, Meleah Russell, Colton Robinson, and Connor Robinson; brother, Ronald (Elizabeth) Bowman; sister, Karen (Robert) Graves; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James (Marcia) Bowman.

Friends and family are invited to gather from 4-8PM on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East. A mass will take place at 10AM on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 7243 East 10^th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Memorial contributions in Bob’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society.
