Indianapolis, Indiana – Robert L. Hyde, 84, went home to the Lord on November 8, 2024, after being comforted by his loving wife, family, and friends.
Rob was born on January 6, 1940, to parents Edward & Cassandra (William) Hyde in St. Louis, Missouri. A year after graduating high school in the late 50s, Rob joined Arthur Murray Dance Studios where he trained their teachers how to teach ballroom dancing, his lifelong commitment. Rob and his partner, at one point in their dancing careers, ranked number 4 in United States competitive dancing.
He went on to work at Indiana National Bank for over 15 years while attending Ivy Tech where he earned his finance degree. Additionally, he worked at Arsenal Technical High School in their finance department for nearly a decade until retirement.
Rob was a colorful character who knew exactly what he wanted from life which was “everything”. He moved seamlessly between different hobbies whether it was being a master of the kitchen, setting up a gorgeous table for family/friends dinners, arranging flowers for his loved ones or decorating his home in the most maximalist style. He was an avid reader and therefore was always learning something new to talk about. He was also a history and movie buff; Casablanca being one of his favorite films.
Becoming a follower of Jesus was his life’s passion. He enjoyed time with the Bridge, his men’s Bible Study group.
Rob is survived by his loving wife, Diane Nichols (Childers) Hyde; daughter Dorinda Dick; stepson Scott Nichols (Stacy); brother Edward and sister Jeannie and grandchildren Christian, Sabrina, and Miranda. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Cassandra Hyde.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Geist Christian Church – Mud Creek Campus (8550 Mud Creek Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46256) from 11 am – 12 pm with funeral services following at 12 pm with Pastor Ryan Hazen presiding.
