Bob graduated from Warren Central High School in 1955 and then went on to Indiana University, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. His love for learning started early with a degree change (or 2) in college which caused him to amass almost enough credits for a doctorate, although his degrees were English and Journalism.
Bob worked as an Advertising Executive at the Indianapolis Star for 28 years.
Bob and his wife Juanita traveled quite extensively starting right after their marriage in 1957. Initial trips were cross country in a 2 man GI pup tent and later graduated to a pop up camper and van when the kids came along. They traveled to all 50 states and most of the Canadian provinces and territories and then started international travel. International travel included 76 countries and all 7 continents, including Antarctica, where they had to use an icebreaker ship to get through the Drake Passage to walk with the Emperor penguins.
Bob served 8 years in the Indiana National Guard and was a WWII history buff. He was a member of the WWII Roundtable, Bald Eagles, American Legion Speedway Post #500, Indianapolis Aero Club and the War Birds. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Indiana Historical Society, and the NRA. He was an avid race car enthusiast and was a USAC timer/scorer at the Indianapolis 500 for 28 years. He was an Eagle Scout and served several years as a Scout Master for BSA Troup 462.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Juanita; son Duane (Kimberly) Campbell; daughters Tracy Campbell and Shari (Mark) Spohn, 4 grandchildren: Aaron, Audrey, Austin and Anna and his brother William (Sandy) Campbell. Bob loved to donate to charities so, in lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice, in his honor.
