Robert E. Behrens, born April 16, 1936 in Lawrence Kansas, the son of John Martin and Helen Nadine Behrens, peacefully entered God’s kingdom September 11, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved Son, Todd J. Behrens
Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Linda L. Behrens who he first met on a blind date while home on furlough from the United States Marine Corps in May of 1957. Mr. Behrens is also survived by his son, Scott Behrens of Noblesville, Indiana and his brother Paul Behrens of St. Louis, Missouri plus grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Behrens lived a life of fullness marked by patterns of success in whatever he undertook such as racing go karts, coaching his son’s youth sports teams and pursuing the desire to be his own boss. He founded several companies most notably Equipment Engineering which grew to international prominence in the field of centrifuge re-manufacturing, repair and service. After selling Equipment Engineering in 1990, he pursued other interests including his passion for travel, adventure and fishing. He particularly enjoyed his fishing trips for pike and walleye in Canada, salmon in Alaska, trout in Montana and bone fish in the Florida Keys. He so enjoyed the Florida Keys that he and Linda purchased a home and relocated there in 1992.
Mr. Behrens positively impacted many people whose lives were made richer by knowing him and was equally grateful for all those who crossed his path and enriched his life.
Ultimately Mr. Behrens lost his battle with cancer but credited the treatment and exceptional care he received at MD Anderson in 2010 for extending his life. In lieu of flowers the Behrens family asks that donations be made on his behalf to MD Anderson https://gifts.mdanderson.org
