Robert Edward Williams, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. He was born on December 26, 1934 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Ervin and Roberta Juanita (Cooper) Williams. Bob was a graduate of Howe High School and worked for over 30 years for Allison Transmission where he was lovingly referred to as ‘Papa Smurf’, retiring as a Supervisor.
Bob was a 50+ year member of the Englewood Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. He loved to travel the world by sailboat and enjoyed woodworking in his basement workshop. Bob’s interests also included assembling model airplanes, photography and listening to the short-wave radio. He had the patience and skill set to master anything he tried and will be remembered as a funny guy, if not always in the most appropriate way.
Bob is survived by his children, Pam Montgomery, Ed Williams (Maryam), Rob Davis (Mel), Jean Furze (Ed), and Michele Shuja (Shawn); 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Joyce Payton Williams; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and James Manson; granddaughter, Karen Manson; and brother, Charlie Williams.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022 from 12-1:45pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St, Indianapolis with Masonic services immediately following. Funeral services will begin at 2pm followed by burial in Washington Park East Cemetery. Guests unable to attend in person may join the family virtually by clicking HERE.
