Robert D. Hanes was called home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents – Aline & C. Ramond Hanes (Lima, OH).
Bob is survived by his wife, Jane of 70 years; daughter, Sheri (Les) Meade; son, Rick (Alice) Hanes; daughter, Cindy (William Schmidt Jr.) King; daughter, Susan (Dave) Kehlenbrink; son, Steve (Liz) Hanes; and his sister, Geraldine Pavick (Akron, OH). In addition, he has 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Bob lived his life with intentionality. At the age of 60, Bob started adventure traveling to exotic places such as: the base camp of Mt. Everest; a gorilla observation in South Africa, riding a bike across New Zealand, backpacking across the Grand Canyon and hiking to the top of Machu Picchu. At the age of 72, he worked at McMurdo Station in Antarctica for five months managing their Greenhouse amongst other things. His final expedition was at the age of 74. He answered a call to help the Mongolian Nomads understand how to build hydroponic gardens. Bob Hanes lived his dreams.
He was a US Navy Veteran – honorably discharged after WWII. He graduated from Ohio State University. He was a devout Christian and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He helped to transform 1000’s of lives in his career with Dale Carnegie Training, from which he retired after 34 years as a franchise owner in Indiana.
Bob will be missed by his family and friends. Friends and family are invited to gather from 2:30pm to 4:30pm on Saturday July 11, 2020 at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis), where a service will begin at 4:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Indy Honor Flight – P.O. Box 10 Plainfield, IN. 46168.
