Robert Osterhous of Indianapolis passed away July 25. He was born in Indianapolis Sept. 7, 1932 to Carl & Margaret (Carr) Osterhous.
Bob graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1950 and Purdue University in 1954 with a degree in electrical engineering.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.
Bob worked in the family business, Welding Equipment and Supply Co., which he eventually owned until his retirement. He enjoyed traveling around the state training manufacturing employees in the latest welding techniques.
He married Joan (Chance) Osterhous in 1963 and they remained happily married until her death in 2012. In 2015, he found happiness again when he married Martha (Marty) Morris Osterhous. He liked to say he was the general and she was the captain, but Marty says sometimes the captain overrules the general.
He was a long-time amateur (HAM) radio operator since 1951 and was a member of the Indianapolis Radio Club for 67 years. His HAM radio friends will be expecting a QSL card from heaven.
Bob was also a car enthusiast and was a member of the Milestone Car Society – Indianapolis and the Lincoln & Continental Owners Club – Hoosier Region, where he edited the member newsletter.
He was a member of the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society, the American Welding Society, Scientech and St. Luke’s Methodist Church.
Bob was a loyal and enthusiastic volunteer at the Indiana War Memorial where he loved guiding visitors through the radio room.
He is survived by his wife, Marty, brother-in-law Richard Chance, nephew Tom Chance and nieces Barbara Chance and Marilyn Shank and Marty’s family members, daughters Helen Adams and Elizabeth Fuller, sons-in-law Mike Adams and Glen Fuller and Marty’s grandchildren, Katherine Adams, Ava and Isabella Fuller.
Calling will be Sunday, July 29, from noon to 2 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan- Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Ave., with services at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
