Robert "Bob" Eugene Strickland

Robert “Bob” Eugene Strickland was born on November 4, 1936 in Washington, IN to Josephine & Robert A. Strickland. He was called to Heaven on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at The Villages of Avon due to complications with Alzheimer’s.

Bob graduated from Washington Catholic High School in 1954. Straight out of high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1954 to 1958 during the Korean War. After serving the country, Bob continued to receive further education at Vincennes University for 2 years followed by Indiana University in Bloomington, IN for a year and a half.

He was married to Elizabeth “Betty” Louise Pieper on October 26, 1963. Bob and Betty are devoted Catholics and they raised their family of 11 through the Catholic Church along with giving them a Catholic education.

He worked at Allison Transmission, Plant #5, for 30 years. Bob was an avid golfer and loved the sport so much that he put together the golf tournament’s for St. Gabriel’s. Although, he gave up his pursuit of golf to spend more time with his children. He was an active participant raising his children as a coach, equipment manager and family man. If Bob wasn’t actually coaching football, baseball or the girls golf team on the field, he would be coaching the kids on the way to and from the game in addition to standing off to the side cheering them on.He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and was also a member of the American Legion. In addition, he was on the Parish Council, Board of Education and Men’s Club all at St. Gabriel’s in Indianapolis, IN.

When Bob retired, he volunteered his time to maintain the upkeep of St. Gabriel’s Catholic School and Cardinal Ritter High School. During his retirement, he also became a snowbird and lived half the year in Frostproof, Florida for 23 years. After those 23 years, he decided to stay closer to family and resided all year round in Avon, IN.

Bob was proceeded by his Parents – Josephine and Robert Strickland; Sisters – Barbara A. Strickland, Marilyn Strickland, Linda Cales and Susie Spalding; Son – Michael Allen Strickland.

Survived by his loving Wife – Betty Strickland; Brother – Fred Strickland (Sharon); Sister – Debbie Cox; Children – Pam Johnson, Daniel Strickland, James Strickland (Katie), Greg Strickland (Tandra), David Strickland (Gaye Lynn), Melanie Kramer (Joseph), Deanna Strickland, Brian Strickland, Barbara Gonzales (Patrick), Steven Strickland; Grandchildren – Michael Johnson, Laura Johnson, Keely Viles (Thomas), Shelby Clayton, Cole Clayton, Victoria Thomas (Eric), Caity Jo Odar (Mike), Ross Kramer (Meg), William Strickland, Chris Strickland (Deanna), Jessi Strickland, Zachary Gonzales, Tyler Gonzales, Jenna Strickland, Penny Strickland, Caleb Strickland, Aquila Strickland, Dylan Strickland, Dallas Strickland, Isabelle Strickland, Isla Strickland; Great Grandchildren – Ryker Viles, Reyden Viles, Maverick Thomas, Marilyn Thomas, Anderson Odar, Harrison Odar, Clara Odar, Wren Patterson and Evelyn Green; and additional family who loved and adored him.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in Bob’s name to Alzheimer’s Association.
