Robert (Bob) Dannenberg

April 28, 1956 — July 11, 2022

Fishers, Indiana

Robert (Bob) Dannenberg, age 66 of Fishers, Indiana passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 at Indiana University Hospital Hospice. Bob was born on April 28, 1956 in Garrett, Indiana to Harold and Alice (Lung) Dannenberg. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 21 years, Bonnie Dannenberg; son, Nathan Dannenberg of Fort Wayne; daughter, Natalie Dannenberg of New York; step-son, Jonathan (Tabitha) Harwell of Indianapolis; and grandchildren, Gracelyn and Grayson. Bob is also survived by his brother David (Maria) Dannenberg of Livermore, California and sister Marjorie (Thomas) Arnold of Decatur, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. Bob and Bonnie were married on June 30, 2001 in Defiance, Ohio after meeting on a Christian matchmaker site. They knew it was meant to be after their very first date.

Bob graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. He started his career working at Raytheon and even had the privilege of working on the Trident Submarine.  The majority of his career was spent as an electrical engineer for Navistar Truck (International Harvester), where he worked for over 30 years.  His greatest accomplishment was the design of the Diamond Logic Builder software program that enabled the company to establish unique parameters for the electrical components for both the cab and attached accessory units. What previously had to be hard-wired, could now be controlled by simple software modifications. This software was used for many years by Navistar and provided them with a competitive advantage over other truck companies.  Bob also holds 13 design patents for electrical innovations he engineered while at Navistar.  After retirement, Bob decided he just couldn’t stay home and went to work for a former boss at American Landmaster.  For Bob, this was a dream job.  He got to design the electrical system for ATV’s.  He absolutely loved what he was doing.  Bob was a man who loved to work.  Whether it was growing up on the farm in Garrett, Indiana, and learning how to fix any and everything, to working as an electrical engineer designing complex systems, Bob loved what he did.  One of his God-given talents was in mentoring co-workers at work.  Many people will tell you that they owe their professional success to what they learned from Bob.

When not at work, Bob loved to go fishing.  He found it very relaxing and he tried out several ponds/lakes in the area.  He also was involved in several activities at the Del Webb community where they lived.  One of his favorite activities was getting together with neighbors to play cards and enjoy good food.

Bob was a member of Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Fishers, Indiana, where he was very active.  He helped serve communion, worked as an usher, was a reader, and even helped with the sound board. Previously, he served on the Board at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Batavia, Illinois, and was also on the Board of Concordia Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana and St. Mark’s Lutheran in Auburn, IN.  Church was always a vital part of Bob’s life. He had a strong faith in the Lord and enjoyed attending bible studies.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Alice (Lung) Dannenberg; his brother, Stanley Dannenberg; his step-daughter Jeanne (Harwell) Miller.
