– A Farewell Tribute to a Gracious Lady –

Raquel (Rita) “Miss Ma” Aguilar (95), a long-time resident of Indianapolis, IN, has passed on to her new home in the pearly gated community of heaven. She will be greeted at the pearly gates by her husband John, son David, her parents Cecil O. and Francisca (Alvarado) Morales and her brothers and sisters that have already passed. She was born in Ladonia, TX, November 1, 1922 and died at Manor Care in Greenwood, IN on July 9, 2018. Her family consisted of 11 children, of which she was the oldest. Her brothers and sisters include: Phoebe Quick (deceased), Ester Cervantes (deceased), Daniel Morales (deceased), Helen Slaughter (deceased), Sam Morales, Frances Carolan, Cecil Morales (deceased), Manuel Morales, Genovieve Cunningham, and Juanita Carr. Many cousins and their families too numerous to mention!
Mom’s children include: Carmen and Bobby (deceased) Carter and family, Simonéy and Roy Roatcap and family, John R. and Suellen Aguilar and family, Bonifacio and Sophia (deceased) Aguilar, Rudolpho and Darlene Aguilar and family, Marcus Aguilar and Whitney Carrington and family, David (deceased) and Terry (Aguilar) Smith and family, Victor and Cindy Aguilar, Nana Aguilar and Kenny Gonzalez (deceased) and family, Roman and Linda Aguilar and family, and Cynthia and John Delk and family.
Mom… Miss Ma was an amazingly, wonderful, caring person who never met a stranger, she treated everyone in the same friendly manner, all the neighborhood kids called her Mom! Everyone loved her, she was friends with everyone in the neighborhood, and made friends wherever she went. My (our) brother, the police officer, took her on a ride-along in his squad car on one of her visits to California. He was called to a domestic dispute call between two neighbors and told Miss Ma to wait in the car, while taking the information from one of the parties involved, he went to check on Miss Ma before proceeding to talk to the other party involved- she wasn’t in the squad car! He panicked and asked people standing around, “Did you see where my Mom went?” They pointed to a house, which happened to be the house of the other party he was supposed to question. Upon entering the house, he found Miss Ma sitting on the couch drinking iced tea, watching TV, and talking to them as if she’d known them all her life! That was our Mom! She sacrificed everything for her children and in my (our) opinion, she was the best mother in the entire world! Never smoked, drank, or cussed (even when she was mad she spelled out S-H-I-T or D-A-M-N), but wouldn’t say the word. She loved to talk, eat, and especially go shopping! Mom was a stay at home housewife until we were all grown and then she watched her grandchildren and also babysat for the neighbors’ children as well. Then later she started working at Blocks Dept. store, which later changed to Lazarus, and she re-located with Lazarus to Greenwood Park Mall. She received many “Apples” (recognition awards for sales and positive customer comments, etc.) Dad was very proud of her, as were we all!
Mom had a total of 92 (grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren combined). They are presented in the order of eldest sibling’s
children, their children and children’s children, down to the youngest sibling’s offspring.

The world has lost a remarkable human being and heaven has gained a supreme, most generous angel! Miss Ma had a unique way of making each of her children feel special, a way that made each of us feel that we were the “favorite one!” Although it breaks our hearts that she is now gone, we can find comfort in knowing she is in a better place, free of all her worldly constraints! Miss Ma still lives on in each of our hearts, until we join her in heaven.
