Richard Wayne Alexander 72, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on August 1, 2017. He was born on August 12, 1944 to Charles and Bernice Alexander (now deceased) of Muncie IN.
He worked in the world of corporate accounting and finance for most of his life. However, he found the most enjoyment working with people (and especially children) during post retirement activities. He served for 7 years as the President of the Windridge Condominium Association and another 2 years as a board member. He also worked as the engineer/conductor for the children’s train at the Castleton Square mall where he regaled countless children with his stories.
Rick also served as an IHSAA basketball referee for over 25 years. He always said he had “the best seat in the house” for Hoosier Hysteria across over 100 gymnasiums in southern Indiana.
He loved golf and enjoyed traveling to some of the world’s most famous courses, including trips to Scotland with his sons to play St. Andrews Old Course. While he lost yardage in his later years, his love for the game never diminished.
Rick was active throughout his life in many civic and philanthropic organizations including, Kiwanis International, Rotary International, Sertoma, and Jaycees.
Rick went through life with great humor and love, especially for his family. His survivors include his wife Karen (12 yrs.), and sons Scott Alexander (wife, Ruth) of Zionsville and Mark Alexander (wife, Robin) of Rocky Hill, Connecticut. Additional survivors include, brother C. Kurt Alexander (wife, Cathy) of Yorktown, sister Cindy Pettigrew of Muncie, granddaughters Riley Alexander and Shanna Alexander of Zionsville, nephews Andrew Alexander (wife, Bethany) of Chicago and Adam Alexander of Yorktown, nieces Jennifer Meyer of Indianapolis and Kaci Pettigrew of Muncie, and grand niece Alexis Slaven of Muncie
