Richard V. Lung, 91, passed away August 1st, 2024. He was born in Dallas City, Illinois, June 11th, 1933, to parents Victor and Garnet (Anderson) Lung.
Richard grew up in Illinois and moved to Indiana later in life.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955.
While he was attending Indiana Central University, he met the love of his life, Sandra Durham. Richard departed for the military, but Sandra continued to write to him, diligently. When he returned, Richard and Sandra were married. They shared 69 wonderful years, growing their lives and family together in Indianapolis.
Richard continued his education at Indiana University and Ball State, earning his master’s in education. He was a schoolteacher for Lawrence Township schools for over 28 years, teaching wood and metal working, as well as printing and photography.
He was also a devoted volunteer for the Lawrence Fire department for 13 years.
Richard was a loving, gentle man. He was very creative and artistically gifted. He loved tinkering with metal and wood, creating many beautiful yard ornaments out of spare metal parts. With wood, Richard made canes and crosses, which he donated to his church and those in need. Photography was a passion for him, as he loved to capture the beauty in the world. He enjoyed the outdoors and traveling. He and his family took countless camping trips to state parks. When his children were young, he converted an old school bus into a camper, so his family could travel throughout the country. Overall, Richard was a devoted family man, Christian, teacher and friend.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his wife Sandra Lung; Children Larry (Loretta) Lung, Loren (Wendy) Lung, and Lee (Dina) Lung; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and his brother Fredrick (Doris) Lung.
