Richard Lee Nelson

Richard Lee Nelson, 82, of Indianapolis, passed into the loving arms of his Savior on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 joining his wife, Janice Beth (Hall) Nelson, his mother Lois (Haines) and father William “Bill” Nelson who preceded him in death. Richard was a loving husband, brother, brother-in-law and uncle to his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. After graduating from Broad Ripple High School Richard attended Butler University where he majored in accounting. He joined the Wm. G. Nelson and Edgar Nelson accounting firm where he worked until his retirement. Richard was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Butler Bulldogs, the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers, in that order. Richard married the love of his life, Janice Nelson, in May 1963. Throughout their married life they attended East 49^th Street Christian Church; Antioch Christian Church where Richard was an elder and East 91^st Street Christian Church where they both served on the Foundation Board.

Richard is survived by his brother Gary (Susie) Nelson; sister Vicki (Dave) Slosson; brother-in-law Steve (Cindy) Hall; nephews Geoffrey (Natalie) Nelson, Josh Slosson, Mike Slosson, George (Stacey) Hall, Rusty Smith, Stephen Smith and nieces Melissa (Jamie) Saddler, Meg Hall and Bethany Hall along with 7 great nieces and 1 great nephew. Uncle Dick was an important part of all his nieces and nephews lives attending many baseball games, soccer games, basketball games and marching band contests.

Celebration of Life services will be held at the chapel at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, 9088 W. 1025 South, Fortville, IN on Friday, February 24^th at 11:00 a.m. with calling one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the East 91^st Street Christian Church Foundation, 6049 E. 91^st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
