Richard E. Topping

Richard Topping,76, of Carmel, IN passed away May 23, 2021. He was born July 25, 1944, in Peoria, IL the son of the late Earl J. Topping and Irene (Middendorf) Topping. In 1966 he married Bonnie Ann Topping.

A 1962 graduate of East Peoria High School where he played football, basketball, tennis, and baseball. Tennis was his lifelong passion.  Richard received his bachelor’s degree from Truman State University where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity and tennis team. He was a lifetime member of the United States Tennis Association and worked for their Midwest division. He loved playing tennis and volunteering his time with younger players and refurbishing racquets for the NJTL. He also enjoyed fishing with his son and grandson and watching and cheering at his granddaughter’s soccer matches.

He worked for Lipton for 30 years.  He started in sales and then as a unit manager.  Later he went on to work in special markets and government sales.  He was very proud of his years with Lipton and made many lasting friendships.  He often hosted the “Rooster” retirees golf outing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bonnie Topping; son Brian (Stephanie) Topping, two grandchildren, Grant and Arianna; sister Shirley Topping; brother-in-law William (Mary) Fairbairn; nephew David Fairbairn. He was preceded in passing by his daughter, Regina Topping.

A Celebration of Life will be from 2:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, June 4, 2021 at the Brookshire Golf Club, 12120 Brookshire Parkway Carmel, IN. Memories and stories will be shared at 4:00pm. Online condolences may be shared by visiting flannerbuchanan.com

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Wounded Warriors, The Timmy Foundation or Faith Mission of Elkhart.
