Richard E. Cummings

Richard E. Cummings of Indianapolis passed away peacefully on June 4, 2020 at the age of 77.

He was born October 13, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Willard C. and Mary F. Cummings.

He attended Emmerich Manual High School.  He received his Bachelor’s degree from Indiana Central College, where he also played football and was on the wrestling team.  He furthered his career receiving his Master’s degree from Indiana State University.

Richard was a teacher for 43 years for IPS Schools.  He loved coaching football and wrestling at John Marshall and Cathedral Schools.

He enjoyed fishing and growing his vegetable gardens. But most of all Richard will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, and papo.  Every time the family parted ways for the day, he would say “take care of your family”.  He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Carolyn R. Cummings; children Richard “Scott” Cummings, Carolyn “Christy” Pohlman (Jason), and Heather Bernard (Eric); grandchildren Victoria Bernard, Alexandria Bernard, Evan Bernard, Ryan Pohlman, Austin Pohlman, and Justin Pohlman; and brothers Charles V. Cummings (Joan) and Rex A. Cummings.

The family is being served by Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East.  Private services are being held.
