Richard D. “Dick” Switzer, 81, of Indianapolis passed away on November 10, 2018.
Dick was born August 20, 1937, in Clinton, Indiana, to the late Joseph and Marie Switzer. He grew up in a musical family, playing the trombone as part of a family band that played at various events together.
After graduating from Butler with his Master’s Degree in Music, Dick worked as a high school band director for Brownsburg High School, Tech High School, and finally Greenfield High School. He retired from teaching in 1977 and began his own lawn care business, Dick Switzer Lawn Care, which he owned and operated until 2005.
Dick honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and served as President of the Marion County Fair Board for many years. He was very active in his churches over the years, volunteering in many roles that included choir director and starting an orchestra. He was an extremely devoted family man, making it a point to spend quality time at home with his children while they were growing up. Dick also then devoted time to be with his grandchildren. He and his wife also loved their many St. Bernards over the years.
Dick leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Susan Switzer; his children, Andy (Sam) Switzer and Rachael (Tim) South; grandchildren, Keatan and Olivia Cameron; and brother, Bob Switzer. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Bill Switzer.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 5:00–8:00 pm on Thursday, November 15, 2018, and again from 1:00–2:00 pm on Friday, November 16, 2018, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm at Flanner Buchanan–Washington Park East. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
