Richard Dick' Leroy Clayton, Sr.

November 5, 1930 — July 13, 2017

Richard “Dick” LeRoy Clayton, Sr., 86, of Indianapolis, IN passed away July 13, 2017. Dick was born in Indianapolis on November 5, 1930 to the late Charles and Ida Mae (Eglin) Clayton. Dick served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a truck driver in Indianapolis for 35 years, and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 135, where he served as a Union Steward. He was also a member of the Living Cross Church, and enjoyed fishing, camping, but most of all, spending time with his beloved family.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; ten brothers and sisters; his granddaughter, Katrina L. Clayton; his great-great-grandson, Jaxon McLaughlin; and his Grandson-in-Law, Stevie Rice.

Dick is survived by his wife, Martha J. “Jackie” (Cole) Clayton; his siblings: Hazel Majors and Clifford Clayton and his children: Pastor Richard (Sharon) LeRoy Clayton, Jr., Sandra Kay “Sandy” Watters, Rhonda Sue “Suzy” (Anthony Sr.) Redman, and Pamela Jean (Wilson “Stan” III) McDonald.

Dick’s Grandchildren are: Kimberly (Brad) Foster, Rachel (Danny) Ballard, Ricky Clayton III, Melvin (Amber) Clayton, Angel (Rolando) Colin, Jacqueline “Jackie” (James) Traut, Denise Rice, James (Paula) Downey III, James (Diana) Redman, Missy (Chad) Vann, Kara (Joe) Deckard, Stephanie Redman (J.P. Scott), April (Richard) Germaine, Anthony (Diana) Redman, Jr., Amy Nuckles, Michael (Becky) Nuckles, Sherri (Chris) Butler, Heather (Jake) McClain, Danielle McDonald (Drew Long), and Trevor Mc Donald.

Dick’s Great-Grandchildren include: Brendon (Kaitlin), Caleb, Dawson, Elijah, Krista, Levi, Aleshia (fiancée James), Ashley, Erin, Corbin, Noah, Keaton, Kamden, Mckenley, Hunter, Sharon, Marlen, Kayla, Gabriela, Yaretzi, Alexi, De Anna (Ricky), Keith Jr., Marissa (Corey), Christian, Nicholas, Sierra, Morgan, James Jr., Erica, T. J. (Haleigh), Tre, Ella, Ben, Gabby, Cody, Bristol, Sammy, Emma (Josh), Zoey, Lucy, Ryan, Jonathan, Valynncia, Jacob, Paisley, Octavia, Alyssa, Austin, Josselyn; and eight great-great-grandchildren with four on the way.

Dick is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank all of their friends and family for their support, as well as the Beech Grove Ambulance Service and all of the doctors and nurses at St. Frances Hospital for their care. A special thank you to Dr. Enright and his staff for their care and comfort.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick’s name to the American Cancer Center, or to the American Heart Association.

Friends may call from 10am until 12pm on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, where funeral services will immediately follow at 12pm. Burial will follow in Washington Park East Cemetery.
