Richard Kenneth Elmore (80), of Zionsville, IN, passed away on March 7, 2025.
Richard (Dick) was born on June 4, 1944 in Martinsville, IN, to Robert and Phyllis Elmore. He was a scholar athlete at both Martinsville High School and Indiana Central College (University of Indianapolis), where he played baseball and football, and developed lifelong friendships. He is a member of the UIndy Athletics Hall of Fame. He eventually settled in the Indianapolis suburbs to raise his family. Dick was a teacher and athletic director at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory HS, and a teacher and eventual head of the Math Department at Ben Davis High School. He also coached high school football, baseball, and wrestling, as well as multiple Little League and Senior League teams. He attended Zionsville United Methodist Church for over 40 years.
Dick is survived by his spouse Angela, his son Eric (Kate), son Ryan (Emily), and daughter Amanda (Gabe) and eight grandchildren, as well as two siblings and multiple nieces and nephews. He was known to all as a good man and a truly caring teacher and coach. He will always be remembered for his passion for being outdoors and his dedication to his family and friends.
A funeral will be held on Friday, March 14 at 12pm at the Chapel at Hoosier Village Retirement Community, preceded by a visitation from 10am to 12pm. Flowers may be sent to the Hoosier Village Chapel at 9787 Hoosier Village Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46268. In lieu of flowers, donations can be submitted to the UIndy Greyhound Club (1400 E. Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227) supporting UIndy student athletes, in memory of Dick Elmore.
