R. Christopher McGrath, 53, of Noblesville, Indiana, passed away on November 17, 2021, after a 2-month hard-fought battle in the ICU with Covid Pneumonia. He was born on February 18, 1968, in Islip, New York to Richard and Margaret McGrath, who currently reside in Noblesville, Indiana.
Chris strived to incorporate his core values — passion, faith, loyalty, and service — into everything he did. He was a successful attorney and mediator for over 25 years; he most especially loved helping small businesses get started and achieve their success. This passion stemmed from having founded many of his own companies: real estate company, semi-pro women’s soccer teams, and Avocado, his first auto racing team and the company that promoted the 2011 IndyCar event at the Milwaukee Mile. Three years ago, Chris founded Sogility, a technology driven soccer training facility in Westfield, IN. Chris’s vocation was mentoring, coaching, and leading others to Christ. Chris served as the head boys soccer coach at Guerin Catholic High School for 5 years and was blessed to be the co-spiritual director for five Christ Renews His Parish teams at St. Maria Goretti.
Chris was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and disciple of Christ. He fed his family physically with the best meals, spiritually with his faith and trust in God and emotionally with his big bear hugs. He was our handyman and gardener extraordinaire, building many decks, a pergola, gardens, a fire pit, a wine cellar, a basement bar, barn doors, backyard fence, many outdoor furniture pieces and the list goes on and on. He supported his children in all their passions, most especially soccer and music, and spent as much time with them playing ‘basement soccer and basketball’ with Ryan, multiple hours-long conversations with Julia, and coaching soccer together with Emily. Chris & Shari fell in love at Marquette University and were happily married for 29 years. For the last 17 years, Chris was also blessed to have his parents and brother live nearby; get-togethers were frequent and full of laughter.
Chris was always thinking, learning, and doing. Always. The only time he would sit on the couch to relax was Saturday mornings when the English Premier League games were on. He was always reading, learning and the first to try new technology. In his ‘spare time’, he enjoyed rides on the Peloton, walking Baylee, and drinking fine wine or the best bourbon with great friends. He truly lived his life to the fullest.
In addition to his parents, Chris will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Shari; three children: Emily, Julia, and Ryan; brother, Andrew; In-laws Russ & Jan Reichert; his 2 dogs, beloved Baylee and ‘tripod’ Owen; and Elsa, his 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 22, from 4 pm to 8 pm, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Drive. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, November 23, at 11 am, at St. Maria Goretti Church, 17102 Spring Mill Rd, Westfield, IN 46074, preceded by a 1-hour visitation beginning at 10am in the church narthex.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made out to the Trace Bulger Foundation and/or Ryan’s College Fund. Checks for Ryan can be made payable to Ameriprise Financial, with a note on the memo line to indicate that it is intended for Ryan’s 529. Checks can be sent to Ameriprise Financial, 501 Pennsylvania Parkway, Suite 200, Carmel, IN 46033.
