Rev. James E. Miller, 91, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024. Born on May 11, 1933, in Smith Valley, IN, to Rosell and Lucille Miller, Jim lived a life full of love, laughter, and service.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Miller, and his cherished children: Karen, David, Donald, Daniel, Duane, and Ashlee. He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosell and Lucille, and his brother, Robert.
Known for his remarkable sense of humor and unwavering humanitarian spirit, Jim dedicated his life to making the world a better place. As a reverend for 18 years and the director of the Indiana Juvenile Justice Task Force for 25 years, he was a beacon of hope and compassion. His outstanding contributions were recognized with two Sagamore of the Wabash awards and an award from the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.
Jim’s legacy is one of kindness, love, generosity, and a deep commitment to equality. He touched countless lives with his warmth and wisdom, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
A celebration of Jim’s extraordinary life will be held on September 7, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at North United Methodist Church, 3808 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis. A visitation will follow at the church from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
