Rebecca Carol Richardson

August 27, 1950 — March 31, 2017

Rebecca Carol Richardson, 66

Our treasured wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Becky Richardson passed from this life to her next adventure on March 31, 2017. She lived a full and active life with an emphasis on family and friends: her people.
She was Valedictorian of her 1968 high school class in LaCrosse, Indiana, where her parents, Rev. Russell and Margaret Richardson served the United Methodist Church.
Becky graduated from Butler University in 1972 with majors in home economics and sociology.
She was an active member of North United Methodist Church in Indianapolis for over 40 years and had a wealth of special friendships there, with her in service.
Becky married the love of her life, Merle H. Miller, Jr., in 1985, richly extending her family.
Becky had a passion for quilting. She frequently hosted quilt retreats where she enjoyed the fellowship of friends and the challenge of new projects. The neighbors chuckled at the “sweatshop next door” when Becky hosted quilt retreat at the family lake house. Even Merle enjoyed these events. Or, it might have been the pies he enjoyed from Becky’s best-friend-from-fourth-grade, Diane Pick.
Becky loved to travel. She and Merle traveled abroad, explored parts of the United States and organized many family vacations. In between trips, she enjoyed reading about traveling. She would bring back never-ending stories with her robust love of life in general.
Most recently, Becky would take “stay-cations’ in her swinging chair installed under a tree in her yard. She would share her use of Listerine as a mosquito repellent, much to the consternation of the recipient.
Becky loved to converse and often called on an unusual collection of phrases: ‘See paragraph above,’ ‘Let me tell you,’ ‘My agenda today includes…’ and ‘We were taught better than that.’ She could tell you things you did not know about geography, history and science while keeping you up-to-date on current events and which quarterback the Colts had in the game.
She always made a connection with people she met, who were each unique and varied in diversity and cultures. She loved entertaining and getting family and friends together. Her people were her most valued treasures.
There were many art interests in her life including dance, theater, glass, fabric and textiles. She and Merle often visited museums and national parks, usually taking grandchildren and other family along with them. (See paragraph above.) She enjoyed telling stories on a meaningful level of the trips and the people she met.
Becky’s stories are a living legacy that will live on in the hearts of those who love her.
She found great joy in her involvement with quilting circles and creative arts and made many dear and lasting friendships, along with quilts and crafts she made. She made quilts for most of her loved ones and would have made more for others, if only her time with us were not cut short.
Her best friend and husband Merle H. Miller, Jr. survives Becky.
