Rebecca June Bartlemay, 35, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025 following a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones in her final moments.
Born February 8, 1990 in Richmond, Ind., Rebecca was known for her kindness, intelligence, and unwavering love for friends and family. She graduated from Purdue University in 2012 with a B.S. in Biochemistry. She was an outstanding biochemist and artist who dedicated her time to mentoring young scientists in her lab, advocating for support and diversity in the workplace, and in her spare time expressed herself through painting. Her laughter, compassion, and resilience touched the lives of many. While attending Purdue, she met the love of her life, John Herrington. The couple was married on October 9, 2015 in Noblesville, Ind.
Survivors include her loving husband, John Herrington; parents, Nancy Witt (Vincent Witt) and David Bartlemay; siblings, Jaclyn Bartlemay (Robert Cornell), Daniel Bartlemay and Alyse Bartlemay (William Vreeland); her beloved in-laws, including Douglas and Cheryl Herrington; cherished nieces and nephews, Harper, Ella and Declan Bartlemay, Liam and June Vreeland and Caroline, Ainsley, Robert and Darcy Herrington; her fur babies, Luna, Olive and Watson; extended family, and many dear friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In accordance with Rebecca's wishes, her body was donated to the IU School of Medicine. A memorial gathering will be held from 12:00pm – 2:00pm, following a celebration of life at 2:00pm March 15th at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd. West Dr., Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Rebecca's honor to the Young Survival Coalition (https://youngsurvival.org). A private burial will take place at a later time.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors at IU Health North and Transitions Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Rebecca’s illness. A special thank you to Kara Stolle and Lennie Foy for their unwavering love and presence throughout her journey.
Her legacy of love and strength will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.
