Raymond (Ray) William Jones of Indianapolis died at 2:45 pm on January 30, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 69 at Methodist Hospital, where he was born on January 2, 1951, to the late Raymond Francis and Mary Marie Jones. He was the youngest son with two older sisters and one brother. He was an Indianapolis native who grew up on the south side, where he graduated from Howe High School and continued to live in Indy the majority of his life.
He spent his career as a repair technician working on typewriters and later computers, being mostly self-taught but highly skilled. He was sought after as the man to fix your oddest computer issues from personal computers to business computers. Often, he would inform you what you did wrong and tell you not to do it again. He went on service calls and met many new people; most he loved. He never knew a stranger too long. Occasionally when the two boys were good, they would get to go on services calls with him. A few times, they went when they were bad and had to sit quietly while everyone else had fun.
His hobbies included taking road trips in his new RV, fishing, and spending time with family. He helped to create Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) before the internet was around. He had created his own version of windows before windows came around. He enjoyed online gaming and meeting people from all over the world. He enjoyed models for the longest time, model planes and trains were his favorite. He got into playing NASCAR racing with Jason on the PlayStation, and it got competitive. He enjoyed LEGO’s and really liked WALL-E. His T-shirt collection was always of places he would often go on a whim or something hilarious. He enjoyed roadside oddities and took his wife to the ocean for her first time in December.
Ray touched many lives in the travels he took with his wife. He was very outgoing and the guy that would approach everyone to talk with them about who they were and what they liked. He will be missed by many and is loved by all.
He is survived by his wife Judy Lee Jones; sons Benjamin Arnold Turnbill (Katherine) and Jason Ezra Turnbill (Kasie); nine grandchildren Blaise Aedyn, Talitha Ennalee Rose, Zebedee John, Penelope Aletheia Grace, Caspian Erastus, Jude Weldon, Noah Gawain, Hugo Oliver, and Eli Stuart Turnbill on the way; two grand fur babies Toby and Luci; sister Marian Grace Dennis (John); dog Buddy; and cats Pepper and Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Charlotte Burns, and brother Bud McGauhey.
