Raymond Louis Alexander

Raymond Louis Alexander, 90, died on Monday January 11, 2021 at his home in Greenwood Village South, Greenwood, IN.

He leaves his wife of 67 years, Nancy Carolyn (Abney) Alexander; his children Carol Bossingham (Don), Janet Foltz, and John Alexander (Karen); seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and sisters Mildred Wyant, Frances Selby, Dorothy Kendall, and Carolyn McWhirter.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mabel (Pennycuff) Alexander and his brother Paul Alexander.

Ray was born February 28, 1930 in Indianapolis and remained a lifelong resident.  He attended Warren Central High School (1948) and Indiana Central College (1952) and obtained a master’s degree from Butler University in 1959.

Ray married the love of his life, Nancy, on April 11, 1953. After his service in the US Army from 1952-1954, Ray began his teaching career at Edgewood Elementary in Perry Township.  From 1960 to 1982, he was principal at Bluff Avenue, Homecroft, and Winchester Village Elementary Schools.  He returned to teaching in 1982 at Homecroft Elementary, retiring in 1989.

Ray attended University Heights United Methodist Church since college.  He became a Master Mason in 1952 at Prospect Lodge 714 and was awarded his 33rd degree of Scottish Rite in 2007.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Flanner & Buchanan with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9350 E Washington St, Indianapolis IN 46229.  Due to the pandemic there will be no public visitation or service.
