Raymond James Yonkus, Jr., 72, Noblesville passed away December 10, 2017. He was born August 31, 1945, in Jersey City, NJ, the son of the late Raymond James Yonkus, Sr. and Florence (Murphy) Yonkus. He married Cheryl Gambrel on March 14, 1968 in Johnson City, TN.
Ray honorably served for two years in the United States Army. He joined the United States Secret Service in 1971 and retired in 1994 from the Indianapolis field office as the SAIC (Special Agent in Charge). Ray started a second career as the founding Vice President of Conseco Corporate Security. He was also the founding Director of the Heroes Club, Inc., which provided support for local Law Enforcement and Public Safety Officers in the Carmel, IN area. Ray was a sports enthusiast and he enjoyed watching the Colts and the Louisville Cards. He was an avid gardener, loved working on his coin collection, and playing golf.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Yonkus, two sons, Brett (Laura) Yonkus and children Aiden, Luke, and Madelyn of Westfield, IN and Jim (JoAnne) Yonkus and children Alex and Olive of New Orleans, LA, brother-in-law, Bob Trapani, two nieces, Susan (Tom) Ludwig and Laura Trapani; and a great niece and nephew, Samantha and Michael Ludwig of New Jersey; many cousins; and brother-in-law David (Martha) Gambrel of Columbus, OH. He was preceded in passing by his sister, Eileen Trapani.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 17102 Springmill Road, Westfield. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Carmel.
