Raymond George Dietiker, 103, Indianapolis, passed away May 12, 2023. He was born in Staunton, IL to George Raymond and Florence Gerber Dietiker. He grew up with a strong interest in nature and spent much of his youth outdoors, hunting arrowheads around creek beds, and studying native plants, birds, and animals. This passion for the outdoors has stayed with him throughout his life.
Ray obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Missouri (Rolla). He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy as a Lieutenant, Jr. Grade. His last employment was teaching physics and electronics at Canada College in Redwood City, California.
Ray has had many interests and hobbies over the years. His passion for hiking led him to Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, the Sonoran Desert, and many other sites in California, Oregon, Hawaii, and Washington States. He heli-hiked the Canadian Rockies and the Swiss Alps.
Other interests and accomplishments include woodcarving, furniture making, lapidary, and painting, as well as building and flying RC model planes. He used his beautiful tenor voice as a member of a barbershop quartet and competed statewide.
For the past 13 years Ray has called Westminster Village North his home, where he was very active, enjoying daily workouts, keeping up with current events in the news, and especially Bible Study and Vespers and his many friendships.
Ray’s last words were of love and thanksgiving for his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Viola, son, Richard O’Keefe, and granddaughter, Gina O’Keefe.
Survivors include his daughter, Sheila (Bill) Sterrett, and son, Dale (Robyn) Vaughn, grandchildren, Leanne (Rob) Tripp, Caryn (Brent) Martin, Christine (Craig) Evans, Joanna Power, Kevin (Jo Ann) O’Keefe, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Flanner Buchanan will hold private service for immediate family, and a memorial service will be held at Westminster Village North Foundation Hall, 11050 Presbyterian Drive on June 10 at 2:00 p.m.
