Randel H. Mishler, 73, of Avon, Indiana passed away August, 17, 2020. He was born June 25, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Noah and Evelyn Mishler.
He was a proud Class of 1965 graduate from T.C. Howe High School. Randel joined the United States Navy on January 22, 1968. Like many during the Vietnam Era, he served eight months overseas on the USS Mercer. He earned both the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Vietnam Service Medal during his service and was discharged under honorable conditions. Our nation is forever grateful for his bravery and service to our country. Upon his discharge, he attended the University of Louisville where he earned his degree in electrical engineering. Despite his degree, he was truly a jack of all trades. Apart from being an electrician, he also co-owned a dance studio in Naples, Florida in the 1980’s, where he custom made the dance floors and created beautiful murals on the walls. He was also owned a successful wedding video and photography business and at one point was a personal macrobiotic chef for cancer patients. His resume doesn’t stop there though, he was also a car salesman at Acura, reconditioned copiers, and even delivered pizzas.
Randel adored his grandson, Cayden. In his later years, his happiest hours were spent watching the Indianapolis Colts with his daughter Natalie and grandson Cayden. He played the jazz/blues harmonica, owning closer to 30 at one time. He enjoyed doing household projects such as refinishing floors and remodeling bathrooms. He continued to delight in cooking and loved to eat a good meal. He was also interested in numerology for most of his life. Though all of these life events describe Randel’s life, family best remembers him for his kindness, gentleness, and wry sense of humor. He often called himself a “foxhole” Christian. Randel was a family man through and through; he was an amazing father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all he met.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Evelyn; half-siblings, David Washam of Indianapolis, and Ardythe Pope of Hinsdale, Illinois. Surviving to carry on his legacy are, daughter, Natalie Mishler (Sarah Hardesty) of Indianapolis, grandson, Cayden Mishler of Indianapolis; sister, Judy (Michael) Talley of Seattle, WA; half-sister, Barbara Steckley of Noblesville; sister-in-law, Dorothy Washam of Indianapolis; as well as a host of extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
