Randall R. Koorsen, 77, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully at home with his family on January 9, 2024. Randy was born October 26, 1946 in Fort Wayne. He graduated from Pike High School in 1965 and received a B.S. in business from Ball State University in 1969. After college, he served in the US Army Reserves through 1975. Randy married the love of his life, Judith Wright, in 1970 and they began their life together.
He began his business career working at Indiana Fire Prevention while still in college. It was a company founded in 1946 by his grandfather, Robert Stroup. Randy then succeeded his father George Koorsen, as the owner and president of the company, which is known today as Koorsen Fire & Security, Inc. Through his dedication and entrepreneurial talent, the company, which started with a single location in Indianapolis, has grown into one of the largest privately owned fire protection businesses in the U.S. Randy was known to the company’s employees as a personal mentor and friend. He was honored by the National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
He and his wife Judi gave back to the community through generous, but quiet, philanthropy. For over 20 years they have supported the nationally recognized child Fire Life Safety program known as The Kasey Program. The Kasey Program has educated over 9 million children. They were also supporters of many non-profits such as I.U. Health’s Neuroscience Center, the ALS Association, and the Koorsen SAFE House in Carmel.
Randy cherished traveling the world with family and friends. From touring museums and ancient castles to visiting historical landmarks, Randy embraced whatever cultures he encountered.
Randy loved sports. He was a high school track star and grew up playing football. He also enjoyed attending several Olympics and Super Bowls with his family.
Randy is survived by his wife Judi Koorsen; children Scott (Elizabeth) Koorsen, Kelly (Jason) Hoffman, Brian (Brittney) Koorsen, and Keith Koorsen; grandchildren Lucas, Samuel, Oliver, Braxton, Bryson, Braden, Ryan, Taylor, James and Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his grandson Brian.
Celebration of life date to be announced soon.
In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorials gifts be made to The ALS Foundation, Randy Koorsen Fund, Donation Processing Center, PO Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022.
