McCordsville

Randall Lee Shaw, 54, of McCordsville, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018.  He came into this world as a gift and everyone that met him realized that through his love of life, faith, family and friends. Randy was born to Michael and Pat Shaw in Urbana, IL and graduated from Centennial High School in 1982.  He went on to earn his B.S. from Mankato State University in Mankato, MN in 1992.  While in high school and college Randy was very active in Youth for Christ and Campus Life.  Following graduation, Randy moved to Indianapolis to work with one of his best friends, Terry Meadors.  Through work, he was introduced to his wife, Leslie, by his good friend and future mother-in-law, Claudia Armstrong.  Randy retired from Defense Finance & Accounting services in April of this year, following 23 years and 5 months of civil service to his country. He was a proud American and enjoyed talking about American History and the Civil War to anyone who would listen.  Randy enjoyed participating in Civil War Reenactments and a recent trip to Gettysburg.  His love of history stemmed from his love of gaming.  Randy became an avid gamer with his best friends Terry Meadors, Jon Mochel and Ned Mochel; although Randy is AFK, he has passed that love of gaming to his daughters.  At a younger age, Randy was active in sports, and as he grew older he fueled his passion for athletics by coaching St Simon basketball, kickball and volleyball.  He also enjoyed refereeing high school basketball and playing in league basketball and softball games.  Randy loved to support his favorite teams which included the St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, the Fighting Illini, the Utah Utes and the Fighting Irish. Randy had such a big heart; he was full of faith, love and charity.  When he was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer in June 2011, he fought with courage, faith and laughter.  He loved his family, friends, doctors and nurses.  Randy will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, brother and uncle; a genuine friend and dedicated coach. He is survived by his wife of nearly 20 years, Leslie (Armstrong) Shaw; daughters, Britney, Samantha and Sydney; mother, Pat (Jerry) Lochner; siblings, Ron (Suzy) Shaw, Staci Shaw, Mickey (Brittany) Shaw, Renae Strawbridge; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.  Randy is also survived by his loving extended family, mother-in-law, Claudia Armstrong; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Michelle) Armstrong and Patrick (Michelle) Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael D. Shaw; and father-in-law, David Armstrong.  Visitation will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 5-8pm at Flanner Buchanan – Geist. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 2pm at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist Catholic Church with additional visitation 1 hour prior to the service, also at the church. Additionally, a Celebration of Randy's Life will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 1pm in the Mahomet United Methodist Church, Mahomet, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to https://donate.coloncancercoalition.org/tributes-and-memorials/RandyShaw or gifted to the family to establish a future education fund for Randy’s daughters.  Friends are invited to leave online condolences for the family at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
