Ralph Powell

Ralph Powell, 89, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 at Kindred in Greenwood, Indiana.

Ralph was born January 3, 1928 in Connersville, Indiana to Rusha and Lillie (Lakes) Powell; the oldest of six. Ralph joined the Navy when he was 17, at the end of World War II. Through the service, he traveled around the world and spent time in many different exotic locations, as well as on different ships. Ralph agreed to a double blind date, set up by one of his Navy buddies, in Central Park, New York and there he met the love of his life Anna Walsh. Ralph and Anna were married on September 8, 1951. They had three children, eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Ralph and Anna took many adventures together over the years that included living in New York, South Carolina and Indiana. Ralph worked for much of his career as a mechanic, but he was also the proud owner of two family businesses; Indy Radiator and State Avenue Rug. He and his beloved Anna traveled the United States and passed their love of impromptu travel onto their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After 46 years of Marriage, Ralph’s beloved wife passed away in 1998. Ralph was surrounded and supported by his family, but Parkinson’s disease took a toll. Family was everything to Ralph and Ralph was everything to his family.

Ralph is survived by his children, Ralph Powell (Nancy), Jane Atkinson (Brad), and Darlene Russell (David); grandchildren, Kristie Devore (Michael), Toni Powell, Casey Powell, Mary Rieman, Ralph Powell, Ann Wheeler (Nicholas), Elizabeth Leisure (Taylor), and Samantha Gruenwald (Nathan); great-grandchildren, Jorden, Alan, Branden, Kelsey, Karlee, Kimberly, Katherine, Landon, Ellie, Elijah, Owen, Ava, and Adaline.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. The service will be at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East. Ralph will be reunited with his beloved Anna after cremation and they will be interred together at a later date.
