R. Mark Rushing, 77, went home to be with his Lord on October 11, 2024. He was born in Springfield, MO, to Robert Mark Rushing and Maxine (Tarrant) Rushing.
Mark discovered a love for sports and adventure early in life, cultivating a lifelong work ethic along the way. After high school, he attended Indiana University, where he earned a degree in Business Management while working tirelessly to support himself.
Following graduation, Mark proudly served in the Marine Corps as an F-4 Phantom Navigator, rising to the rank of Captain. His time in the Marines instilled in him a love for discipline, service, and camaraderie—values that shaped every part of his life.
After completing his military service, Mark entered the insurance industry, eventually founding Rushing Financial Group. He found purpose, not only in building a successful business but also in forging lasting friendships along the way.
Mark’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Renee (Phillips) Rushing; his children: Traci (William) Heffernan, Chad Goodyear, Kelly (Ben) Braun, and Kiley Thomson; and his cherished grandchildren: Will Heffernan, Jacob, Sarah, Luke, and Anna Braun, along with Logan, Nate, and Eli Thomson. He is also survived by his sister, Lisa (Al) VandenHuvel. Mark is now reunited in peace with his parents, Robert Rushing and Maxine Bingham, and his sister, Susan Smith.
Mark’s faith was the foundation of his life, guiding his actions and relationships. He also had a deep love for animals, especially his Springer Spaniel, Gracie, and Labradoodle, Sugar, who brought him endless joy.
Mark’s legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the love he shared, and the business ventures he built. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
