Phyllis Irene Brown

Phyllis Irene (Johnson) Brown, was called home on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. She was born in Ramapo, Rockland County, New York on December 14, 1932 to Carroll Leroy and Beatrice Irene (Conklin) Johnson. Phyllis was their first child and she attended school in Ladentown before attending high school in Palm Beach, Florida; graduating in 1949. In 1953, Phyllis married William Brown, Jr. and shortly thereafter moved to Schenectady, New York. It was there that their son, Keith Brown was born before moving again to White Plains, New York and then on to Binghamton, New York. Phyllis worked in the lab at Bromme Co. Hospital, and it was also during that time that their daughter, Amy, was born. In 1965 the family moved to Indianapolis, where they had their third child, Christopher. Phyllis starting working for St. Vincent Hospital on Fall Creek, which later moved to the present location. In the early 80’s she went to work at Community East Hospital as a lab manager, before moving on to Hancock Regional Hospital. In 1985 she earned her Bachelor of Science from the School of Medicine of Indiana University. She used this knowledge to help develop the lab layout for Hancock Regional Hospital. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1995. She is survived by her children, Keith William (Susan) Brown, Amy Irene Brown, Christopher Todd (Kelli) Brown; grandchildren, Conner, Evan and Catherine. Phyllis is also survived by her sisters, Betty Lou (Johnson) Ruiz, Linda L. (Belli) Stromberg, Susan A. (Belli) Mahler; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. This was a favorite passion that she passed on to all of her children and grandchildren. There will be no services, burial will be held privately in Memorial Park Cemetery.
