Phyllis Ann Coughlin

April 4, 1935 — October 9, 2021

Brownsburg, IN

Phyllis Ann Robbins was born April 4, 1935, to Walter Clinton and Lillian (Kyle) Robbins in Kingsport, TN. She entered eternal life October 9, 2021. She was the middle of three children; older brother William predeceased her in 2019 and younger brother, Walter “Sandy” predeceased her in 2013. While their mother was busy caring for Sandy, Bill and Phyllis were free to roam the Tennessee countryside. “What one didn’t think of the other one did.” The family moved to Speedway, Indiana in 1947. Phyllis graduated Speedway High School in 1954.

Phyllis married the love of her life, James Lawrence Coughlin, August 26, 1956. Jim predeceased Phyllis September 12, 2001. Jim was a homebuilder and realtor and together they literally built their first two homes together. Phyllis is survived by her children Steven (Darlayne) Coughlin, Kimberly (Bob) McCain, and Robert (Kimi) Coughlin. Sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Robbins and Rita Robbins also survive along with nephews, Tom (Sandy) Robbins, David (Kathy) Robbins, Ken (Nicole) Robbins, Bart (Missy) Coughlin, and Kent (Laura) Coughlin, and niece, Kristy (Scott) Babcock.

During her life she was known as Phyllis, Mom, and especially “Memaw”. Her legacy continues with nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Grandson Steven coined her name “Memaw”, but she was truly Memaw to all. Phyllis was proud of her heritage, being descended from the Seveirs of Tennessee and always preserved the memory of her uncle, S. J. Kyle, who was killed in Italy in WWII.

She was a homemaker, a teller at First Bank and Trust in Speedway, and later in life continued her education for nursing, a career for which she was ideally suited. She was employed at Brownsburg Health Care for several years and later assisted with the pre-school at Brown Elementary in Brownsburg.

Phyllis will be remembered for a smile that projected love and her happy, outgoing personality. More than anything she loved time with her family. Even in her later years she was in no hurry for a family celebration to conclude. She was blessed with good health throughout her life and made a habit of walking three miles a day.
