Philip Gregory (Greg) Harris, a long-time Indianapolis resident, died June 10, 2024, in Ft. Myers, Florida, of complications following a stroke.
He was 82.
Greg was born on March 10, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. After moving to Indianapolis, he graduated from Arsenal Technical High School, and then became a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy. He served for 32 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant.
Greg loved playing golf, hot-rodding cars, and boating. He was a film aficionado and loved classic John Wayne movies, along with British TV mysteries. Greg was also a history enthusiast and enjoyed model trains. In his younger years, he was an accomplished amateur boxer. He was also a life-long Freemason, a member of the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) and a Shriner.
He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Janet Harris, a daughter, Kristen Harris, stepdaughters Julie Thacker, Jill Driver, Cindy Tiefel, and Shelly Rowlett, stepson David Martin, and grandchildren Atticus Thacker, Kate Thacker, and Emily Thacker. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jake Driver.
