Peggy Joanne (Nelson) Meier died peacefully September 22, 2024, at Compass Park retirement community Franklin, Indiana. Peggy was born at home in Clay County Illinois February 10, 1932. She attended Effingham High School and played trumpet in the marching band. After graduation Peggy moved to Indianapolis to be with family and found jobs with RCA, and Bell Telephone. She met her husband of 71 years, Henry Meier, at Tuxedo Baptist church. They were married June 28, 1953, and had 4 sons: Scott Jeffery, William Dire Wolff, Paul Timothy and Thomas Allen. Family outings included camping, and skiing.
Peggy received a Bachelor of Science from the College of Mount St. Joseph-on-the-Ohio University and a Masters of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary. She was ordained as a minister at St. Luke Methodist church. She worked as a counselor at Interfaith Counseling Center in Muncie, IN. Subsequently, her private practice provided grief counseling and faith-based healing.
She was a 60-year member of the First Baptist church, Indianapolis and was active in bible study and various committees. She was especially active in the Sally Dodson Circle leading activities from producing handmade bed mats for the homeless to quilting blankets for newborn babies.
Peggy and Hank traveled often from family vacations with the boys, to representing the Y’s Men and Women at an International Conference in Australia. As empty nesters they traveled to China, cruised to Alaska, and visited their sons around the world.
Survivors include sons Scott Jeffery, William Wolff, Paul Timothy and Thomas Allen, 8 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 9-11 am November 9th at First Baptist Church 8600 North College Avenue. The funeral will be at 11am followed by a burial at Union Chapel Cemetery with a reception to follow at First Baptist Church.
