Peggy Lou Yates, age 90, of Westfield, IN passed away on January 13, 2023, surrounded by family.

She was born July 20, 1932, in Bloomington, IN, the youngest of five children born to Donald Delaney and Undine Hawkins Delaney. She graduated from Richland Township High School in 1955.

Peggy was a beloved member of the First Free Methodist Church in Bloomington, IN. Peggy was very musical and played the organ every Sunday for many years as well as a member of the church choir. She was employed by Indiana University for several years prior to taking a position at the Delta Delta Delta Sorority house on campus. Peggy worked for the Tri-Delts for 27 years as house Mom, custodian, cook, event set up, she wore many hats and loved working with hundreds of college girls all those years. She said they kept her young. After retiring, she worked part-time at MCL in Indianapolis pouring coffee and socializing with the customers well into her 70 years of age. Peggy loved shopping and eating at her favorite restaurants. She loved music and playing the piano, organ and singing. Peggy loved spending time with her family and with friends.

Though Peggy’s health was challenged for years, her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through and staying strong.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Carl Yates; her stepdaughter, Sandra Kay Fulford; and stepson-in-law John Anderson. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Hays; stepson, Michael Yates (Trudy); stepdaughter, Connie Anderson; stepson-in-law, Jim Fulford; granddaughter, Brittany Hart (Michael); grandson, Michael Hays (Amy); six great-grandchildren, Olivia Hart, Trevor Hart, Annabelle Hart, Jack Hays, Joey Hays, and Luke Hays; five step-grandchildren; and ten step-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 4th, with visitation at 1:00pm and service starting at 2:00pm at the Bloomington Free Methodist Church, 1121 S. Lincoln St., Bloomington, IN 47401.
