Peggy Anne Stump, 93 of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.  She was born on May 28, 1929 in Columbus, OH to the late Robert E. and Margaret (Schmitt) Lee.  Peggy was a 1947 graduate of Lima Central High School and earned her BS of Nursing from Ohio State University in 1951. She was an excellent athlete, and her younger years were filled with basketball, tennis, Girl Scouts, and synchronized swimming at Ohio State University.

Peggy married Loyd Stump, MD on March 23, 1952 in Lima, Ohio; where Peggy lived since age 7. After a few years in Washington, DC for Loyd’s army duties, they settled in Indianapolis where she raised 6 sons. Despite that incredible workload, Peggy developed into a talented artist. She worked in jewelry making and pottery but most of her talent went into tole painting. She belonged to several homemakers’ clubs where she taught others. Later, Peggy joined the Red Hat Society.

Peggy will be remembered for her utter devotion to her family. Her skills in organization and logistics rivaled a field general.  Peggy leaves behind a vast collection of artworks: handmade lamps, handmade clothes, crocheted afghans, quilts, knitted items and numerous acrylic paintings on every imaginable surface. She loved doing crafts with her grandchildren.

Peggy is survived by her husband of 70 years, Loyd Stump, MD; 6 sons, Robert Stump, MD (Pat Kotylo, MD), David Stump, MD (Serina Flores, MD), Thomas Stump (Karin Franzen, MD), William Stump, PhD (Wendy Berelson), Steven Stump (Tammy), John Stump (wife, CC Cooper).  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Katherine Fuller (Tom), Michael Stump, MD (Jamie), Marit Mucci (Nick), Chris Stump, Jeff Stump, MD, Ellen Franzen Stump, Tyler Stump, Brianna Pedersen (Corey), Katya Sadoff, Miles Stump, Erik Franzen Stump and Jordan Stump.  Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Bonnie Gallant; and grandson, Kevin Stump.

Peggy will be laid to rest in Washington Park North Cemetery.  Her family will gather to celebrate her life in a private ceremony at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or any rescue dog shelter.
