Paul Randall Darrough, Sr.

August 11, 1932 — October 20, 2019

Plainfield, Indiana

Paul Randall Darrough Sr., 87, of Plainfield, Indiana passed away on October 20, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born August 11, 1932 to Liscome and Hulda Darrough; he was one of six children.

Paul met the love of his life, Ruth Ann, through mutual friends. The pair were married in November of 1952. They spent 64 beautiful years together raising their five children and traveling. Paul was immediately crazy about Ruth Ann; they remained deeply in love at the time of her passing on July 2, 2016. Shortly after marriage, he was drafted into the United States Army. He dutifully served his country, including time overseas in Korea, until his honorable discharge on December 3, 1954. Our nation will forever remain grateful for his service. Paul worked as a truck driver for Consolidated Freight, a career he absolutely loved, until he retired in 1991. During his retirement party, he donned a tuxedo, complete with a cummerbund that matched the company’s colors, and waltzed about the office shaking hands with everyone. But, like most men of his generation, retirement wasn’t for him and returned to the workforce as a truck salesman for White GMC, where he successfully sold utility trucks and semis for many years to come.

He was an ornery, stern man but always had a heart of gold. He loved traveling, doing yard work and gardening. Paul was a very talented artist, he loved to draw and make sculptures. He was known for making drawings and busts of all this family members, items they’ll always cherish. He was truly one of a kind. He was member of Living Christ Lutheran Church in Plainfield. His passing leaves an empty space in the hearts of those who were blessed enough to meet them, peace can be found in knowing Paul knew the Lord and we will see him again some day.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Liscome and Hulda; loving wife of 64 years, Ruth Ann; five siblings, Mary Ann, Martha, Ervin, Justin, and Margaret. Surviving to cherish his memory are children, Kathi Glenn, Ann (Roger) LaFave, Laurie (Mark) Schanz, Paul “Randy” Darrough, and Mary (David) Kaehr; eight grandchildren, Joseph (Liz) Glenn, Nick Darrough, Adam Smyth, Randy (Kim) Darrough III, Roger LaFave, Elaina Kaehr, Elise Kaehr, and Elarie Kaehr; 8 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family members, neighbors, and friends.
