Paul Joseph Lubbers, age 93, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Friday March 16th, 2018 at home surrounded by family. He was born on the family farm near Tyndall South Dakota on November 24, 1924 to the late Henry and Grace (King) Lubbers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lubbers, his son, John Lubbers and his sister, Mary Ella Johnson.
After graduating from high school in Tyndall he went into the ROTC program. He served in the Army Air Core as a flight engineer. After his honorable discharge from the Army Air Core, he attended Huron College where he received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. He served in Campus ministry at Huron College and later attended Minnesota Bible College where he studied to be a minister. While attending Minnesota Bible College, he met his future wife, Betty Klusmeyer. Paul and Betty Lubbers were married on August 18, 1950. Paul and Betty recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
Hobbies he enjoyed were camping, gardening, jogging, and mechanical work. He enjoyed Christian music and was a part time DJ for a small radio station in northern Wisconsin. His weekly radio program featured Christian Music.
Paul was passionate about teaching various Bible studies. He taught Bible study for many years, even up until his last few weeks of life. Churches he served as minister were Church of Christ in Janesville, Wisconsin, Church of Christ in Sheldon, Wisconsin, Church of Christ in Wayne, Ohio, Church of Christ in Ladysmith, Evangelist for the Wisconsin Christian Missionary Association, Cline Gardens Christian Church in Hammond, Indiana, and North Eastwood Christian Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He is survived by daughters Miriam Hawkins (Phil), Martha Wade (Kenneth), and Paula Garland (Steve). Grandchildren include Nathan Hawkins, Brian Wade, Michelle Wade, Jason Garland, Joy Winslow, John Garland, and Caleb Hawkins. He also had 15 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made for the Saltillo Christian Mission located in Saltillo Mexico. Checks should be made to Community Christian Church.
Visitation will be held from 4-8PM on Wednesday March 21, 2018 at Flanner Buchanan- Washington Park East. Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 22, 2018 at 1PM. Entombment will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery.
