Paul H. Johnson, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 15, 2018. He was married to Bernadetta “Bernie” (Roell) for 62 years and is survived by her.
He was born in Indianapolis to the late Nina and Arthur Johnson in 1931. Paul graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1949 and joined the US Navy in 1950. He proudly served on the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard during the Korean War.
After leaving the Navy, he attended Indiana Central College and Indiana University and later began a 35+ year career in the motor transportation industry. Paul retired in 1996 from the Motor Supply division of GTE Supply (Verizon).
Paul coached basketball at St. Simon CYO and was a long-time coach at Bel-East Senior League baseball. He was a member of Kennington American Legion Post 34.
Paul also is survived by his four children, Vicki Crabtree (John), Dennis (Brook), Doug (Christy) and Linda “Dee Dee” Mulcahy (Marty), twelve grandchildren; Amy Poer (Patrick), Jonathan Crabtree (Stephanie), Jordan Crabtree (Kate), Andrew, Chris, Will, Doug (Katy), Evan, Ryan, Margaret Johnson, Rachel Mulcahy and Erin Mulcahy and ten great-grandchildren.
His brother, Gene Johnson, preceded him in death.
Paul’s family would like to thank the staff at At Home Preferred, Forum at the Crossing, IU Health and Dr. Stephen Beck, Dr. Andrew Greenspan and Dr. Ronald Boris for all of their help and care during Paul’s final days.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Flanner Buchanan- Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite). Visitation will be held from 1pm-4pm and a memorial service will begin at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital (c/o St. Vincent Foundation, 8402 Harcourt Rd, Ste 210, Indianapolis, IN 46260).
