Patricia Joan (Remsburg) Barber, 90, passed away on May 5, 2022, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Pat was born in Greencastle, Indiana to the late Roy Earl and Beatrice (Nelson) Remsburg on February 29, 1932; although she forever insisted that she was only 29! Pat graduated from Greencastle High School in 1950 and was co-valedictorian of her class. She worked briefly at Central National Bank in Greencastle, a job she took tremendous pride in and enjoyed immensely.
Pat married the love of her life and soulmate, Joseph Wallace Barber, on December 21, 1951, in Greencastle. They eventually left Greencastle after which Pat dedicated herself to caring for Joe (she always said he was the head of the family, but she was the neck!) and their three children, Mike, Brett, and Margo Barber. She always said that it was her greatest pleasure to be a wife and mother.
Pat’s second greatest pleasure in life was volunteering her time to others. She spent several years volunteering at the Richmond State Hospital working with patients with the hope of adding joy to their lives. After moving to Indianapolis after Joe retired, Pat volunteered at the Indianapolis Zoo and Gardens. She mostly worked in the gardens, but also loved helping with special events like Zoo Boo. Pat loved talking to people and never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her husband; as well as her siblings, Rose Marie (Sug) Cannon and Roy W. (Burgie) Remsburg. Pat is survived by her three children; three granddaughters, Jackie, Corey and Margo Danielle; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle, Indiana, on May 9, 2022, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
