Patricia Florence Mcmillan Safford

Patricia (Pat) Florence McMillan Safford died peacefully on January 8, 2017 in Indianapolis. Pat was the widow of Albert Safford, whom she married in 1956. She was born September 28, 1930 in Edinburgh, Indiana, the oldest child of Albert McMillan and Evelyn (Bruce) McMillan. Surviving are her children Denise Safford (David DuMond) and Charles Safford, as well as granddaughters Katie Winn (Sam Bays) and Chrissie Winn Manuel (Kyle Manuel) and great-grandchildren Owen Manuel, Leila Manuel and Genevieve Bays. Also surviving is her brother, James McMillan (Louise), of Leavenworth, Indiana. Her beloved sister and best friend, Mary Ann (McMillan) Hamilton, preceded her in death. Nieces and nephews include Fred (Laura) Hamilton, Melinda (Tim) Adams, Susie (Denny) Jamison and Aaron (Elizabeth) McMillan, as well as several great-nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Safford graduated from Nineveh School in 1948 and began her work career at the Johnson County Extension Office, moving on to Indiana Bell Telephone, the old Indiana National Bank, the Indiana State Fairgrounds (from which she retired) and finally retiring for a second time from Mark III Management. Pat loved to read and volunteered at IPS #70 school library during the time her children attended grade school. After moving to the Broad Ripple area she could be found walking daily in her neighborhood as well as walking to the Broad Ripple Library. She was also a fan of music, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the old Starlight Musicals and Rogers & Hammerstein productions. Pat also enjoyed traveling, especially on the many bus trips she and her sister took over the course of many years. Pat was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and a life-long member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nineveh Chapter.
Visitation will be Friday, January 13, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple. Service will be Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery, Edinburgh, IN.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Indianapolis Public Library.
