Owen Jones Neighbours, Iii

Owen J. Neighbours, III, 76 of Indianapolis, passed in peace with his wife appropriately by his side on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. He always enjoyed friends and family , sharing memories, watching sports, discussing politics, and listening to songs from the golden age of rock n roll.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years; and light of his life, Janet Harrold Neighbours. His children Owen J. Neighbours IV, Peter J. Neighbours (Wendy), and Kathryn E. Neighbours (Gwendolyn Hicks). Four adored grandchildren Sam, Jack, Annamarie, and Parker. He was preceded in death by his parents Owen J. Neighbours and Eleanor M. Miller, brother James W. Neighbours, and a son Ben Stickle. He is also survived by his brother, John T. Neighbours (Sharon).

Owen was a graduate of Park High School, Class of 1962, and obtained his Bachelor degree from Depauw University. Early in his career Owen was a realtor and partner in the firm Spell and Neighbours. Later he was Senior Marketing Manager for Industrial Development during the Orr/Mutz administration. For his accomplishments in that position Owen was named a Sagamore of the Wabash. Owen participated in Indianapolis Theatre, and through his charisma and presence, showed that he was a natural on the stage.

He was an avid fisherman. History (especially Civil War history) and Politics would be discussed, analyzed, and dissected for hours. His love for rock and roll was infectious. His gift of articulation could always hold the room. The general trivia and knowledge he possessed were rarely rivaled. These passions, and more, often encouraged “highly spirited debates.” Family members and friends would be taken to historical sites of varying significance. Owen would then tell the story of the importance and connection with facts and information that people will never forget. His values, principles, and loyalty were a part of his signature.

Owen’s spirituality and faith were private, and shared by those closest to him.

Visitation on Monday, October 28, 2019 from 10am-12pm at Flanner Buchanan- Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Ave, Indianapolis. A service will be offered at Flanner Buchanan at 12:00 PM. A burial to follow the service at Washington Park North, Cemetery, 2702 Kessler Blvd W Dr, Indianapolis. Celebration of life will continue at the Knights of Columbus, 2100 E. 71st Street, Indianapolis, from 230 pm – 630pm.
