Opal M. Davis, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 3, 1935, in Monticello, Kentucky to her parents, Fred Raines and Lola Owens.
Opal graduated high school in Kentucky, and then moved to Indianapolis where she began a 60+ year career of dedicated service in the restaurant industry. She married, Rex Davis, in 1966. Together they raised a blended family on the northeast side of Indianapolis.
Opal could be remembered for her love of card games, specifically uno and bingo. If you knew Opal, then you knew that she made the world’s best baked ham. Opal even had a green thumb when it came to her beautiful flower beds. She was independent, hardworking, and a true matriarch for her family. She loved all her children, grandchildren, her great grandchildren, and her fur baby, Bo. She never missed an opportunity to support her loved ones. Opal touched many lives and will be missed terribly by everyone.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Steven (Cheri) Thomas, David (Cindy) Thomas, Douglas Thomas, Susan (Robert) Sekeres, and Rex Davis; her 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended friends and family members.
Opal was reunited in heaven by her husband, Rex Davis; her parents; and her sisters, Virginia, Geneva, and Armena.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 10AM-12PM at Flanner Buchanan—Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St. Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation beginning at 12PM. Opal will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
