Norman W. Best, Jr., 77, passed away on November 15, 2022, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on June 2, 1945, in Garrett, Indiana, to the late Norman W. Best, Sr., and Lois Best.
Norman went to Indiana University, Bloomington, after graduating from Garrett High School. He joined the army in 1966 and was always proud of his time spent serving our country. He then resumed college at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and graduated with a degree in Accounting. He worked at American States Insurance Company for most of his working life. After taking an early retirement, he decided to pursue a different career and went to the University of Indianapolis to receive a Master’s Degree in Education. He taught business classes at Chatard High School and Indiana Business College, later named Harrison College. He really enjoyed his second career as a teacher. He also was a proud member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and a devoted fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Indianapolis Colts, and Indiana Hoosiers. We will remember him for having many opinions on sports and politics.
The one true love of his life, Susan Marie Best, passed away September 26, 1995, after 13 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to his two young children and somehow managed to work full-time and raise his children as a single parent. We hope that he and Susan are reunited again.
Norman is survived by his children, Norman Brad Best and Natalie Winter; and grandchildren, Blake and Marie Winter. He is preceded in death by Susan Marie Best; Norman and Lois Best; and his brother Jeffrey Best.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 2, from 10 am to 11 am, with a Service following at 11 am, both at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250. Norman’s final resting place will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
