Norma Morgan Fread

May 13, 1928 — December 2, 2022

Carmel, Indiana

Norma Morgan Fread passed away on December 2, 2022, in Carmel, IN, at 94. Norma was born May 13th, 1928, in West Plains, MO, to John Morgan and Hazel Drumright Morgan. She spent most of her young life in Osceola, IN. Norma was a graduate of Indiana State Teachers College.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William (Bill) Fread, her children Susan Fread Albrecht and Craig W Fread, and her two brothers, Robert (Bob) and Lloyd Morgan. Her children survive her: Chris M Fread (Carol) — Noblesville, IN; Libby Fread Morgan (Kevin) — Ocala, FL, and John C Fread (Julie) — Cornelius, NC; her caring sister: Karen Swank and her 11 Grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Norma’s fulfillment in life was indeed the simple things: her flower garden, playing cards in her bridge club for over 30 years, visits with friends, and talking on the phone for hours with her sister. Norma’s passion in life, however, was her family. And so, it was fitting that she was born on Mother’s Day.

Everyone who knew Norma used words to describe her: sweet, caring, nurturing, selfless, and loyal. Norma was the rock of the family of 5 children: always providing a safe house, a warm meal, a ride to a game, an open house to friends, and attendance at every concert and solo contest. She was always there for her kids, most times quietly in the background, providing comfort to her children that she was there.

Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren were the next level of love and caring from Norma. She lived for that next visit from them! Norma also enjoyed quilting. Her children and grandchildren have many of Mom’s quilts as treasures. She had a deep faith displayed in the many ways she volunteered at her church (Carmel United Methodist Church in Carmel, IN, and Grace United Methodist Church in Hartford City, IN).

To see Norma’s legacy, look into the eyes of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and you will see that Norma’s sweetness is the greatest gift she left her family. The family is comforted that she is reunited with her parents, brothers, husband, and, most importantly, her two children.

At Norma’s request, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
