Noreen A. Helmer

Noreen A. Helmer, 76, of Westfield, Indiana, passed away on August 28, 2024. She was born on August 10, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, to parents, William Derrig and Johanna (Powers) Derrig. 

Noreen was a beloved mother, sister, and friend whose vibrant spirit and passion for life touched everyone who knew her. 

A lifelong learner, Noreen earned a master's degree in college student personnel and a bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in history and geography. 

In her free time (not that she had much raising two rambunctious sons), Noreen enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought her joy and fulfillment. She had a deep love for reading, exploring new recipes through cooking and baking (especially her caramel pecan pie), and immersing herself in music. She also found solace in gardening and relaxation in her favorite TV shows. 

Noreen had a special fondness for certain holidays, particularly Christmas, Mother’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Thanksgiving. These occasions were always marked by her warmth, generosity, and the joy of being surrounded by loved ones. 

Noreen is survived by her sons, John (Emma) Helmer IV and William Helmer; one grandson, Jack; and four siblings, Bill, Patti, Mike, and John. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, John Helmer III. 

A Memorial Gathering for Noreen will be from 1-3pm on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Hamilton Memorial Park (Prairie Waters) – 4180 Westfield Rd, Westfield, IN 46074. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
